League Match and Club Championship Summary
League Matches
This week saw Heywood's first match of the season in the Central Lancashire League. This year we are fielding a team in Division B and, under the stewardship of club president and club treasurer Bill O'Rourke and Dave Almond respectively, the club are using the league as an opportunity to reintroduce members old and new in to competitive chess.
Leyland A joined us for a home match and our team this week included promising junior Lucas Stubbs and erstwhile member Peter Edhouse. It was a closely fought affair and the match result turned on an impressive performance by young Lucas meaning Heywood pick up the first victory points of the season.

Upcoming Matches
Next week Heywood will be travelling to Rossendale on Tuesday evening in the East Lancashire League and hosting Bury on Wednesday evening in the Manchester Chess Federation.
Club Competitions
Paul Curran and Roy Bywater took the opportunity to kick off the Club Championship and sat down to a game alongside their team mates in the league match. It was long struggle, but having gone down a pawn out of the opening Roy unfortunately fell foul of a fleet footed past pawn in the end game meaning Paul takes the first points of the competition this year and goes to the top of the leader board.
