Heywood Chess Club
Since 1995 we have been meeting in Heywood to play chess. We have members varying in strength from novice to experienced and therefore are able to cater for all levels of experience.
We play at Hopwood Constitutional Sports and Social Club, an excellent venue less than a couple of minutes from Junction 19 of the M62. Besides the function room where matches are played, there is also a large lounge room available to all Heywood Chess Club members for relaxation. Club night is on a Monday evening.
Junior Members
Under 18s are welcome between 18:30 and 19:30. We plan to arrange some training sessions in this time slot. Note that Juniors must leave the club by 19:30 unless they are playing for a team or in the club championship.
Adult Members
Adult chess, including team matches and club championship games, starts at 19:30. Adults are welcome before this, but should not expect an atmosphere suitable for deep concentration!
League Competitions
We enter a number of teams in various local leagues. We aim to ensure that any adult or junior members who wish to play in team matches get the opportunity to do so. We currently have teams in the following leagues:
Manchester Chess Federation
East Lancashire Chess Association
Central Lancashire Chess Association
Bury & Rochdale League
Refer to our fixtures page for further details.
Come along!
Why not ask your friends or work colleagues do they fancy playing chess? Everybody welcome, whatever your age. If you would like to visit one evening, please do come along, probably best to avoid a match day for a first visit but aside from that we look forward to meeting you at our venue.
