Heywood Chess Club

9th October 2024

League Match and Club Championship Summary

League Matches

Heywood were in competition twice this week.  On Tuesday the team were sent to Rossendale to face up in the East Lancs Chess League Division 2 tie.  The players pulled out the stops in this match with a strong performance taking 4.5 out of the potential 5 points.  The one drawn result by Mo was itself a decent performance against a player rated some 90 points higher.

Wednesday night on the other hand was a mixed bag.  Playing against Bury 2 in Division E (1) of the MCF League, on paper, Heywood should have taken this tie easily however Bury played well and scored strongly against a couple of our players.  Notably Paul Curran dropped his Queen in an epic blunder from a winning position and promptly left the building!  The tie finished 3-3.  Well done to Bury and to all of the Heywood players involved.

Upcoming Matches

Two fixtures against next week.  Tuesday night sees Heywood travel to Clitheroe for the East Lancs League tie and Wednesday night Heywood are on the road again to meet up with 3Cs3 in the MCF.

Club Competitions

With a packed fixture list no club competition matches were played this week however the draw for the club knockout will soon be on the cards.

And in other news

A few young faces were at the club this week which is nice to see and played each other in a few games.
