League Matches

Second game of the season for Heywood in Division 2 of the East Lancashire Chess League this week.  Heywood took the home advantage against Blackburn Crusaders C.  That advantage was strengthened as Blackburn's 5th board wasn't filled giving the default point to Heywood and leaving poor Mo to play against himself.  In the end is wasn't required as Heywood made full use of their games and finished the evening on 4.5 vs Blackburn's 0.5.  The full match card for this one can be found here

This takes Heywood to joint top of the division after 2 matches, though at this early stage of the season 3 other teams also have 3 points from 2 matches.  Only Burnley C and Heywood share the top spot at this point with a slight lead in games won over Blackburn C and Clitheroe C.  Shaping up to be a close division this one.

Upcoming Matches

We'll see how this ELCA division shapes up in two weeks time when Heywood travel to Great Harwood hoping to continue the good form and stay out on top.

Before then though, Heywood's 2nd team in the Manchester Chess Federation league face off Bolton 4 in the E division tie at home next week.  This match will be an opportunity to catch current joint leaders Swinton & Worsley 4 and Bolton 4 who both have a win and a draw from 2 matches played with Heywood having drawn the previous match in this competition.

Club Competitions

Tony Jinks raced ahead in the club championship taking down Con Carey this week with the white pieces.  Tony is now a full point clear of George who has 2 from 2 so far.

Thanks to all those that turned out this week.
