A few of our members represented Greater Manchester in the NCCU match against Yorkshire today
Northern Counties Chess Union
It was a cross Pennine match up today as a team of players representing Greater Manchester in the Northern Counties Chess Union County match schedule met at the Sheffield Chess Centre to play off against a Yorkshire side.
Five players from Heywood took their county cap:
In the U2050 section George Turner secured the win as the tie overall was drawn 6 - 6. Notably, long time Heywood chess associate Kyle Pelling played on top board in this section and scored a win against an opponent some 30 or so grading points higher.
In the U1650 section Matthew Poon played on board 4 and this time suffered a defeat at the hands of strong play from his counter part. Stephen Flaherty played on board 7 and came away with a win. On board 8 Tony Jinks managed a draw against a higher rated opponent. Across the section Yorkshire came out on top with 6.5 - 5.5.
In the U1450 Donna Chadwick scored a full point against her opposition and the tie was drawn 6 - 6.
A strong showing all round form the Heywood club members, well done to all and what a close match between two close rivals!
