League Match and Club Championship Summary

League Matches

Due to some fixture adjustments within the MCF our league match was cancelled this week and so our club members were left to play out their club competition games

Upcoming Matches

Next week Heywood will be fielding a crack team in our second match of the East Lancashire Chess Association Division 2 having drawn the first match of the season against Burnley C back in October.  Next week's match will be played at home against Blackburn Crusaders C who always show up well turned out.

Club Competitions

Paul Curran, looking for redemption after suffering defeat at the hands of Tony Jinks last week, played Con Carey in the Club Championship who was similarly hoping to turn the tide previously losing out to Mo's strong play.  Both players turned out a pretty flawless game and after 48 moves, despite the club secretary (taking a half time break from the football) Steve's initial view that a win was still to play for, a draw was agreed.

On the other side of the playing hall Peter Hurn and Remi duked it out in the first match of the club knockout comp.  At points in the game Remi looked to have the upper hand but by the end of the game Pete had turned things around and managed to take the win.  This he may come to regret as next up will be last year's winner George Turner.

A few other members played some casual games tonight and thanks to everyone who turned out.
