Heywood Chess Club

7th February 2024

League Match and Club Championship Summary

League Matches

This week Heywood played in a home tie against a super strong side from Swinton and Worsley in the Manchester Chess League.  Starting the evening in 3rd position in the Division a result would mean jumping to second and extending the amazing winning streak to 8 matches in a row.  Fortunately our players pulled out the stops and, with a little help from the rules, were able to secure the win.  The match result was drawn however as S&W were unable to fill the 6th board a point was awarded to Heywood and a further point deduction was made from S&W for not notifying us in time.

Special thanks to Roy for turning up to play even though his opponent did not; there will be many more matches to play in for sure!  Also huge wins at massive rating point disadvantages to Steve and Tony helped to bring home the points!

Upcoming Matches

Heywood players will be racking up the miles next week with 2 league matches both held away.  On Monday night Heywood will be out again in the Manchester Chess League.  This time with the 1st team in Division C captained by club secretary Steve Flaherty hoping to make it 3 from 3 and close the gap on division leaders Ashton 1 and 3Cs 3.  And on Valentine's evening, captained by Donna Chadwick, Heywood will be visiting Great Harwood in the East Lancashire Chess League Division 2.  A win here would take us into 2nd place but with 2 games in hand.  Good luck Heywood playes!

Club Competitions

There were no club championship games tonight given the league match taking place.
